Dedicated servers

Create, run and manage a Minecraft server from the launcher itself — vanilla, Fabric, Quilt, Forge or NeoForge —, invite friends over the local network or the internet and join it with one click.

Server as an instance

  • When creating an instance, choose "Server". The launcher downloads the server for the chosen version and handles the EULA acceptance, which is asked of you once, never assumed.
  • The instance gets the Console, Network, Players and Properties tabs.
  • On the Modpacks screen, "Install as: Server" creates the server of a pack.
  • The mod catalog accepts servers, shows only what runs on a server and refuses client-only mods.

Manage

  • Console: see what the server says, type commands and follow whether it is starting, online, saving or stopped. Stopping is always a request to save.
  • Players: who is online, operators, whitelist and bans — by name or by IP.
  • server.properties on screen: every option with what it means, validated before saving.
  • Restart by itself if it goes down, up to three times in a row. A server left running when the launcher closed is adopted again on the next start.

Friends over the internet

  • Per server, choose to open through the router (UPnP, no account) or through a playit.gg tunnel (free account, works on any network).
  • The launcher shows the address to copy and warns when the Windows Firewall is in the way, with the steps to allow it.
  • With the server online, the "Join" button opens a compatible game instance already connected to it.
